Choose page names that include your most important keyword(s) or search term(s). Example: www.abc-realty.com/tudor-style-homes.html 3. Choose your text content carefully. The first 20 words on each page are king. Make it human friendly, as well as search engine friendly. Phrases like "iPod" are too general and too competitive. Try specific phrases that people would tend to search on - something like "black iPod mini". Also, update your content regularly. 4. Use alt-tags on all images. Give meaningful descriptions for each image, that include your keywords. 5. Choose unique title-tags for each page in your website. Use keywords and give a good description of what the page is about.
6.Write a detailed description tag for each page. Include keywords. 7. Put keywords into header tags (<H1>, <H2>, <H3>, etc.), bold, italics. Search engines pick up on the emphasis of these on keywords. 8. Use keywords in your page links. For example, instead of using the good ol' "click here", try something more content-rich like, "click here to view local realtors in your area". 9. Create a site map page for humans as a page of your website. Also, create an XML site map page for the search engines. This will ensure that all your pages are being indexed by the search engine robots. There are many free online site map utilities that you can use to create your XML site map. For example, try: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ or visit http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps for more information. 10. While you are creating a sitemap, don't forget to create a ROR Sitemap. ROR sitemaps are readable by all search engines, not just by Google or Yahoo. ROR is an exciting new sitemap tool that uses XML feeds to describe your website. To start producing your own ROR sitemap, go to Rorweb.com.
11. Translate your website, or a web page in your site, into another language to tap into foreign markets. Try Google's Web Page Translator: http://www.google.com/language_tools. 12. Obtain high quality site links to your site - and link back to them as well. This is one of the most important things that you can do to improve your Search Engine Ranking Placement (SERP). 13. Other methods of increasing your incoming links are: writing articles and blogs, submitting your site to important directories, participating in forums, paying for links, and careful trading of links with respected, high-ranking websites. Stay away from low quality sites, FFA's / Link Farms, and sites unrelated to yours. 14. Keep trying different keywords and phrases. Don't be afraid to try new things. It takes dedication and patience when starting to boost your sites ranking. 15. Have fun!
